Adrian has sent a message to Liverpool fans ahead of Wednesday’s Merseyside derby against Everton – saying he is ‘already focused’ on the Anfield clash.
Spanish keeper Adrian will deputise for Alisson against Everton after the Reds’ No1 was sent off in Saturday’s win over Brighton .
The Brazilian was shown a straight red by referee Martin Atkinson after handling outside his area at Anfield, with Adrian coming on as a sub to replace Alisson in goal.
Some observers condemned Adrian after he comically let in the free kick awarded for Alisson’s transgression.
However, manager Jurgen Klopp came to the keeper’s defence , naming Adrian his “man of the match” and suggesting the referee should not have allowed a quick set piece to be taken against a keeper who had come on cold.
Adrian has actually kept Liverpool’s only Premier League clean sheets this season – in a 1-0 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in September and a 3-0 victory at Burnley in August, both while Alisson was injured.
And as he took to Twitter to declare he was ready for the Everton derby, Adrian was inundated with good luck messages from Reds fans.
Adrian shared a picture of himself giving a thumbs up as he strolled past ‘The Walk of Champions’ – a wall mural inside Anfield showing the plethora of silverware won by Liverpool in the club’s trophy-laden history.
Alongside it he posted the message: “Know what?? Already focused on Everton! COME ON LADS!!”
Good luck messages were in abundance in reply, with fans posting messages such as, “We’ve got faith in you”, “Good luck Adrian we love you”, and “First home clean sheet incoming”.
Adrian and Liverpool will be facing an Everton team desperately in need of points following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City, with Blues boss Marco Silva under huge pressure to turn results around.
